Abstract

Rabies is an acute infectious viral disease of zoonotic, which affects all species of mammals. In urban areas, dogs are seen as key players transmitters of this disease, and due to its strong interaction with humans, put at risk a large portion of the population. In Brazil, although the urban rabies is controlled in most states, a large number of post-exposure prophylactic treatments performed due to the involvement of people in accidents with dogs or cats. These events cause for grave concern, not only the possibility of rabies transmission by physical damage (sometimes fatal), and emotional, but also the costs generated in result in health care. Overall, the costs for the control of rabies urban areas are very high, with most spending on human post-exposure prophylaxis, which worries the Ministry of Health, in Brazil. For this reason, the present work aims at implementing policy measures that seek to improve care program for persons involved in animal diseases in Jaboticabal, São Paulo, aiming to reduce the number of treatments for prophylaxis rabies post-exposure. The project will involve the public and employees of the Department of the local health study, looking at the end to sign a proposal to the authorities responsible for insertion of a veterinarian in animal health visits, the application of new types of chips, and computerization of data. Efforts should be concentrated to integration of medical and veterinary services, which will contribute greatly to the improvement of rabies care human post-exposure. (AU)
