Abstract

Since 2000, the word Machinima is referred to the cinematic productions made in interactive virtual worlds as online electronic games. The technique gained prominence between the internet users because of its facilities of creating cinematic narratives; but among its many possibilities, there are artistic films with no connection to the storytelling. These examples make room for the review of the initial concepts proposed by the Academy of Machinima Arts and Sciences; they also make room for the investigation of what would be its possible developments besides cinematic narratives. Our main purpose is, therefore, to investigate how Machinima dialogues with the traditional cinematic techniques, including it in the contemporary creation processes which use new technologies. We also intend to accomplish a deep investigation about its complexity, pointing out what could be its future perspectives.
