Abstract

This project aims at reconstructing the general path of Diva Nolf Nazario, academic at the University of Largo de São Francisco, Brazilian feminist suffragette, who fought for women's suffrage at the beginning of the 20th century, in Sao Paulo. She was also secretary at the Brazilian Federation for the Female Advancement, anorganization which played an important partin the feminist struggle at that period. The research will be conducted on three sources: the work published by her, Vote female and Feminism (1923); in her hometown Batatais, specifically in the newspaper The Gazette Batataes; files from the Law School and Academic Sorority XI August, in which she participated. Based on this case study we are interested in verifying how the first women's struggles for institutional participation in the political life of the country began. Through this struggle for their inclusion in the public world and through the construction of their Brazilian citizenship during the Republican process, we assume that these women had participated in what can be considered the beginning of feminism and had given their contribution so that the 21stcentury women could have their representation of power increased.
