Abstract

Software programming isn't normally associated with the work of the visual design, but nowadays there's a growing number of designers writing their own software as part of their design process. Computer programs, when built as intermediate design entities, can represent and making operational relations of data and geometries. Extending the ability of the designer to construct and explore, within a reflective conversation, spaces of solutions. The main objective of this research is to demonstrate, within the field of information visualization design process, that programming codes, when used to represent and operate drawing instructions, can help manage the complexity of the project. Through the use of programming the designer can have more control over his tools, being able to externalize, represent and operate abstracted models of their design process. Thus the designer is also working with systems that draw parts of their project, handling its constraints and relations. (AU)
