Abstract This research project aims to analyse the films Sem Essa, Aranha!, directed by Rogerio Sganzerla, and Barão Olavo, o Horrível, directed by Julio Bressane, both in 1970. Jean-Claude Bernardet's O Vôo dos Anjos: Bressane e Sganzerla' (São Paulo: Brasiliense, 1991) will serve as a model of film analysis, while French filmmaker Eric Rohmer's 'L'Organisation de l'espace dans le "Faust" de Murnau' (Paris: Cahiers du Cinema, 2000) will contribute with tools concerning the analysis of the organisation of cinematic space. Those two films were made as a joint project within the production company called Belair, founded in 1970 by Sganzerla and Bressane, with the aim of making seven full-length films in only five months, and within an atmosphere of complete freedom and critical approach to both cinema and society. Its subsequent shutdown by dictatorial censorship led to a total lack of access to most of those films, what kept them from being consistently analyzed until now. Therefore, this project also aims to fill that gap through a systematic film analysis, focusing on the particular characteristics of the organization of space in those two films of the Belair period.
