Abstract The shallow soils are commonly evaluated as unsuitable for agriculture without taking into account the physical and chemical characteristics of their saprolite. However, it is known that somesoils, especially in areas where saprolite are deeper and friable, are areas with potential for farming production. Thus, this project aims to study the morphological, physical, chemical and mineralogical of shallow soil sand their corresponding saprolites in semi-arid region of Pernambuco State, and improve the identification of different types of contacts soil/saprolite/rock in the field. Moreover, the differencein their organizations, constitution sand behavior will be evaluated, in order to give a better evaluation of their suitability for agriculture. In this regard will be describe and collect samples of 13 soil profiles (horizons and layers), mainly under natural vegetation to minimize possible errors in the evaluation of root distribution in soils and saprolite. The description will encompass saprolite features such as color, structure, texture, thickness, porosityandfractures. Emphasis will be givento the featuresof the fractures, like angles, shape, size, quantity and thickness. | |
