Abstract

This research is based on the study of modern furniture produced in Brazil in the decade of the 50th century, having as object the production of coordinated furniture and modern residential architecture of São Paulo. This production had the furniture store "Branco & Preto" in São Paulo, ally unchallenged, partnership instrument that acted as a mediator of this relationship. The general purpose is to make clear that during this period in Brazil due to the spread of the ideas and practices of modern architecture, the furniture designed and made with refinement, care and technical execution consisted of an inseparable element of the expression of that architecture. The survey assumes that the relationship found in the furniture a mainstay of the avant-garde expression. It is inevitable considering the fact that the furniture express cultural values, aesthetic, economic and social aggregates; themes that enrich and make its complex characteristics, as well the performance techniques and artistic influences received.
