Abstract

This work consists of research about an automatic voltage regulator (AVR) of a synchronous generator excitation system, using different control techniques that are implemented in the majorities of digital device used commercially today. The proposed solution is to provide an automatic voltage regulator, implemented in Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and a graphical user interface, through a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition software, able to command a control system and also record, in real time, system operation. Once completed the project will be possible to list the possible advantages and disadvantages of the use of PLC and supervisory software and the new control strategy, compared to digital devices currently used for the control of synchronous machine.
