Abstract

This project aims to report the research activities of the Neurophysics Group (GNF) of the Department of Cosmic Rays and Chronology of the Physics Institute Gleb Wataghin (IFGW) of Unicamp. The purpose of these researches is the study of the brain, both healthy and pathological, by using techniques such as magnetic resonance (RM), electroencephalography (EEG), near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and by the combination of these techniques. The impact of the researches of GNF, some of which are pioneer in Brazil, is of relevance to both academic and clinical studies. The improvement of the mentioned techniques and of the analysis of obtained results can lead not only to a better understanding of brain structures and functions but also in better diagnosis and attendance of patients with neurologic disorders. Therefore, the scientific communication of these researches can accelerate the process of diffusion of knowledge and its applications in a strategic and relevant area for health in the state of São Paulo and, consequently, in Brazil. Throughout the project, journalistic articles and other pieces of scientific communication will be made and published in the official websites of GNF and of IFGW, in neuroscience blogs and in the electronic magazine ComCiência, (http://www.comciencia.br/comciencia/), edited by the Laboratory of Advanced Studies in Journalism (Labjor) of Unicamp.
