Abstract

Marine invertebrates with planktotrophic larval phase show high capacity of dispersion and big populations, as is the case of intertidal mollusks in the rocky shores. Though, it is expected that this animals don't present population structure along great distances, but innumerous studies found fine-scale population structure in this organisms. Echinolittorina lineolata is an abundant gastropod in Brazilian rocky shores and show fine-scale genetic structure and low macro-scale genetic structure. In this study, the aim is to explore the causes of the population structure in E. lineolata, particularly analyzing the genetic variability of the recruits among time. There will be realized periodic collections of early-recruited individuals in two different localities and analysis of the mitochondrial genes cytochrome oxidase I (COI) and cytochrome b. There will be done estimations of the samples genetic diversity, as number of polymorphic sites, haplotype diversity, nucleotide diversity and the mean number of pairwise differences. The genetic differentiation between samples will be obtained through the analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA). Tajima's D and Fu's F will be used to estimate demographic expansion, as well as mismatch distribution.
