Abstract

The main objective of this project is to study the solar wind-interplanetary causes and low latitude geomagnetic response of intense geomagnetic storms in solar cycle 24. To do so we will use statistical analysis of the distribution of intense storms in solar cycle 23 and current solar cycle 24 and investigate several storms as case studies. To achieve the above objective we will perform the following steps: statistical study of the storm distribution with solar cycle; study of the origin of geomagnetic storms during solar cycle 24 analyzing data from interplanetary plasma and magnetic field of several satellites and computing the correlation and cross-coupling of energy; study the geomagnetic field effects through the behavior of indices (SYMH, ASYH, AE); study of the influence of solar wind and interplanetary parameters on the ground field variations.
