Abstract

Results of doctoral research conducted with prostitutes who provide sexual services in São Carlos / SP demonstrated that educating yourself in the exercise of sex work requires availability to live different experiences. This availability and the relationships established in the context of providing sexual services are marked by trust / distrust. The relationship between education and trust / distrust can also be deduced from activities implemented by different associations of prostitutes with the intent to promote self-esteem and self-confidence of these women. Thus, the objective of this research is to investigate the role of trust / distrust in the process of educating themselves in prostitution, trying to see how consolidated knowledge in the exercise of this social practice may favor the self-esteem of these women and the promotion of her assumption as subject of rights. This research proposal is part of the framework of investigations that have been produced in dialogue with prostitutes and refutes the perspective that tends to obscure the agency of these women and deny their status as subject. The materials analyzed in this research will consist of interviews granted by prostitutes (or not linked to associations) and the notes of observations. The methodology and interpretation of the collected data will be based on dialogue and interaction with the research participants and will be guided in the contributions of the Popular Education and Phenomenology.
