Abstract

This project aims to analyze the evolution of Brazilian exports of non-renewable natural resources in the period of 2000 to 2010 in order to verify if the country has been presented gains of competitiveness in the period. To achieve this purpose it will be employed the Constant Market Share model (CMS), the Revealed Comparative Advantage index (RCA) and the Regional Orientation Index (ROI). It will be used international trade database such as Aliceweb System developed by the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade and International Statistics of the Statistical Division of the United Nations - UNSD. It is intended to demonstrate trough the Constant Market Share model (CMS) if the competitiveness has been responsible for the expansion of Brazilian exports of exhaustible natural resources, or if this expansion might be explained by other factors such as world trade growth, the composition of exports and the export destination. The Revealed Comparative Advantage index (RCA) is used to show the competitive advantages of products classified as non-renewable natural resources exported by Brazil and the patterns of specialization. The Regional Orientation Index (IOR) is used to measure the degree of penetration of non-renewable resources in the market for major economic blocs. (AU)
