Abstract

The purpose of this Project is to reflect about the classification of "doll" that the ritxoko karaja has assumed. The intention is, through critical review of the literature, to wonder about the native status of this kind of pottery and question whether the concept of toy is fitting for thinking about this indigenous object which, among other destinies, is gifted to young karaja girls. By inserting the "karaja's dolls" in the wider thematic of Anthropology of Art, as proposed by Gell (1998), we seek to launch a new perpective about ritxoko, passing to include them in social relations. Furthermore, to reflect upon the child's reception of the pottery, we will debate with the theme of Antropology of Children (Lopes da Silva e Nunes, 2002). The articulation of these two approaches enable us to not to underestimate the objects (as if they were self evident) and neither the children (as they were "come to be adults").
