Abstract

The industrialization, started in the second half of the 18th century, transformed the whole society; therefore the information world could not be excluded. With the growth of the importance of information for different strata of society, as well as the growth in the production of traditional information resources and the appearance of new ways of recording knowledge, it can be claimed that the 19th century lived an information explosion. This was felt for many different professionals that looked for new methods to organize the chaos in which knowledge records were found, originating, in the transition from 19th century to 20th century, the Bibliographic Movement. It is this movement, its conceptions regarding information, the formation of its ideias, as well as its heritage to contemporary Information Science, that will be the focus of this research.
