Abstract

The poecilidae fishes are excellent models for study of ecologic and evolutionary process associates with invasion and colonization of new environment. A good example is the occurrence of Poecilia vivipara populations in ponds at northern of state of Rio de Janeiro. The colonization of these ponds is probably recent due the recent geologic formation of ponds. The process of colonization (origin, routes and time) is unknown. Our main target is to infer how happened the colonization process in these ponds doing correlations with geologic formation history. Preliminary results using mitochondrial DNA showed an association between genetic structure and geologic formation. But preliminary results do not allow to infer how colonization process happened. For this work we intent increase the sample scale and refine the genetic analysis using nuclear DNA. (AU)
