Abstract

Physical activity assures good functioning of the brain with a consequent improvement in cognitive functions and cerebral functional capacity. On the other hand, it is known that in individuals with epilepsy, prejudices can frequently impede or hinder the regular practice of physical activity, instead of providing the opportunity. Thus the objective of this plan is to study whether adult epileptic patients practice physical exercise regularly, and correlate this with quality of life aspects and with the clinical characteristics of epilepsy. Fifty adult individuals will be included, all diagnosed with epilepsy and attending the Clinical Neurology Outpatients Department of HMCP, PUC-Campinas. The following evaluations will be carried out: anamnesis, digital EEG, the Quality of life in epilepsy inventory -31 (QOLIE-31), the Epileptic fit gravity scale (EGS) and the questionnaire on the level of physical activity (IPAQ - version 6). Parametric and non-parametric tests, adequate to the situations will be used, with a level of significance of p<0.05.(AU)
