Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the viability of using thermography in the clinical management of preterm lambs that had respiratory activity stimulated by drugs and establish a thermal profile of normal and premature newborn sheep. The animals will be divided into five groups with at least five animals in each. Group One, will consist of lambs at term (145 days), normal delivery, Group Two will be premature lambs without treatment (138 days), Group Three (premature treated with dexamethasone), Group Four (premature treated with surfactant), and Group Five (premature treated with dexamethasone + surfactant). All premature will be obtained by elective cesarean (138 days). Physical and thermography examination will be performed immediately after birth, at 15, 60 minutes, and at six, 12, 24, and 48 hours after birth. Blood samples will be collected in those moments for realization for blood gas analysis, complete blood count, liver and renal profile, serum determination of glucose, lactate, cortisol, insulin, and determination of protein fractions by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. It will also be performed on the chest radiograph at birth, at 24 and 48 hours of life, in order to assess the pulmonary pattern. The variables will be subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) to determine if there are differences between groups and between times, with a significance level of 5%.(AU)
