Abstract

Gangliogliomas are the most common mixed neuronal-glial tumor of the Central Nervous System (CNS). They comprise about 1% of all brain tumors, affecting mainly children and young adults and are usually associated with medically refractory epilepsy. In general, gangliogliomas are classified as low-grade, slow-growing tumors, with good prognosis after complete resection. However, complete resection may be impossible and ganglioglioma eventually develops anaplastic features, which are classified as WHO (World Health Organization) grade III tumors. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of magnetic resonance image (MRI) and possible clinical and pathological correlation of a series of patients with histological diagnosis of ganglioglioma, from a university hospital: the Clinical Hospital of State University of Campinas (UNICAMP).(AU)
