Abstract

The present research aims at evaluating the efficiency of the accessibility implanted in squares and parks for individuals carrying visual deficiency, mainly by analyzing their relationship with those public places. The study is started with a thorough bibliographical review on the subject, focusing on the rules and laws in effect; interviews with experts from other fields of knowledge, such as psychologists, educators and occupational therapists; and the contribution of people with visual deficiency, applying evaluation tools as interviews and accompanied walks in some parks considered accessible located in Sao Paulo city. It is intended to understand the space perception by the subject, identifying the influence of the auxiliary cognitive elements of such perception. Based on those analysis and studies, the intention is to identify the restrictions posed by the environment, as well as the effectiveness of the methods and elements designed for usetoday, getting to know the limitations, abilities and needs of those individuals. Through the understanding of their perception of the environment, a search to establish parameters to propose adaptations to the forms of orientation and location in space will be done in order to allow people with visual deficiency to be fully included on the open public places.
