Abstract

The reproductive physiology of marine mammals, especially cetaceans, is poorly studied and published papers on the species are rare, despite a large number of stranding. Given this fact, this work will aid important information regarding the description of the microscopic anatomy and physiology of the reproductive organs of cetaceans stranded in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin. This paper aims to describe the histological features of the female reproductive cetacean species Sotalia guianensis through light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy analysis. Specimens of different age classes (puppy, young adult) will be analyzed, deriving from stranding events on the beach in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin area. The tissue fragments collected will be processed according to light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy techniques.(AU)
