Abstract

Considering the state of abandonment of the residence and studio of the sculptor Sérgio Camargo in Jacarepaguá, Rio de Janeiro, since his death in 1990, this research intends to rescue the place that used to be one of reflection, work, and living of one of the main voices of modern sculpture in Brazil and about which almost nothing has been published since then. The project signed by the architect Zanine Caldas, a friend of the sculptor, also does not show up amongst the most important publishings of his work, although it does represent an exemplary product of the arguments that surround his way of thinking architecture. Therefore, aiming for the contribution towards the theme of Brazilian residences, this research proposes the discussion regarding the cultural relevance of Sérgio Camargo's house within the context of visual arts and architecture in the country, having as a main pilar the already existing bibliography and a new investigation based on a documentary survey from the heritage related to the subject, as well as on the formulation of interviews and graphic records in field research.
