Abstract

In this project we propose to carry out measurements of fusion cross sections for the 16O+16O reaction at energies below the Coulomb barrier. These measurements, which has great astrophysical interest, representban enormous experimental challenge, as the cross sections of these processes are very small. Therefore, it is important to have an experimental setup composed of detectors with high efficiency and sufficient background suppression. In this experiment, it is planned to detect the reaction products using the spectrometer named Saci-Perere developed by the group of Gamma-Ray Spectroscopy of the Laboratório Aberto de Física Nuclear do Instituto de Física da USP.
