Abstract

This project presents the objectives of the internship of the student Patricia Sartori, regularly enrolled in the Graduate Program in Computer Science and Computational Mathematics (ICMC-USP), being developed in collaboration with Cardiff University in Wales - UK. The emphasis of the research is to understand the physics of atmospheric flow over cliffs and then predict the best location for a wind turbine in order to obtain the best possible production of energy. As the study is of computational nature, this stage aims to bring the code to the methodology of Large Eddy Simulation - LES, combined with an immersed boundary method (IBM), to be implemented to simulate turbulent flows. At the end of the project aims to use the LES methodology with dynamic subgrid model. Cases with different heights and cliffs velocity values of the atmospheric boundary layer will be simulated. The partnership with Cardiff University, more specifically with the research group of Prof. Thorsten Stoesser, will be of great importance for the development and implementation of the code. (AU)
