Abstract

The clientlist relation between politicians and their electoral supporters and the importance of the constituency as the only way of political survival underlying the argument of the distributive literature seems to be presumed from the electoral rules rather than actually demonstrated. The explanatory chain that tends to generalize parochialism, as a rule, neglects other possible links between candidates/parliamentary and voters. This project aims to study the dynamics of the relationship between candidates and the electorate taking into account the spatial context that affects it. It intends to ascertain if, through empirical evidence, candidates concentrate their votes in certain regions that are involved in a dynamic that, due to the location/proximity of its cities, comprises relations of social interactions, trade relations, information flows, and people´s transit.(AU)
