Abstract

Biological databases are necessary to store and make available information on different organisms, which facilitates the sharing of this information within the scientific community. Examples of biological database on ants are AntBase and FoCol, which contain digital images and other information. Our Laboratory of Molecular Evolution at UNESP in Rio Claro has developed and maintained the Virtual Museum of Attini ants, which uses the SIGLEM database. However, this database does not present relationships between entities and does not include the possibility of storing species molecular barcode. This project aims to apply reengineering and fuzzy ontology in the SIGLEM database to normalize the associative entities available, to build and provide semantic information about ants, including barcode data generated in our laboratory. This work will improve the database available, and create a metamodel for construction of new biological databases.
