Abstract

This research project is aimed to augment the land use and transport interaction integrated modelling framework designed for case studies within the UK. The intended improvement consists of adaptations to data structure and algorithms, to enable these models to be used for the case study of the São Paulo Metropolitan Area, within the ReVISIONS project. In the UK, the ReVISIONS project, coordinated by Professor Marcial Echenique, from Cambridge University, aims to provide the knowledge and evidence base for public agencies and private companies to plan spatial development together with infrastructure for buildings, energy, transport, water and waste in a more integrated way to reduce impacts on the environment, improve economic competitiveness, and allow households to live more sustainably with an enhanced quality of life. ReVISIONS is carrying out a case study of the Wider South East of England and more detailed case studies within the East of England, in consonance with case studies in São Paulo and Beijing, through collaboration with the University of São Paulo and Tsinghua University, to compare city regions of similar sizes but at different stages of development. This comparison is aimed to provide a better understanding of the processes that influence urban development. The proposed project is an essential part of this process. (AU)
