Abstract Topological quantum field theories (TQFT) is now a subject of greatinterest in physics due to its relevance to topological order andtopological quantum computation. In this context, it is of primeimportance to know which systems can bedescribed by a TQFT in the limit of large distances and low energy. In this project we investigate an Euclidean version of this problem. We consider gauge theories on the lattice and look for points on theparameter space where the theory behaves as topological. Hopf algebrasand 3-manifold theory appear naturally in our approach. | |
