Abstract

Introduction: Studies in the field of psychotherapy, oncology, pediatrics and nurse use of VR-codes for encoding factors of verbal and nonverbal communication in therapist-patient relationship had satisfactory inter-rater reliability, however, studies of patients with nonspecific low back pain has were not performed (DLNE). Objective: The primary objective of this study is the reproducibility of the VR-codes, examining the inter-rater reliability to ensure more consistency to the data collected by experimental design outlined below. This work is part of a larger project which is to investigate the impact of specific factors DLNE communication between patients and their therapists in clinical outcomes, therapeutic alliance and patient satisfaction. Methodology: The first encounter between patients with nonspecific low back pain and therapists will be filmed for registration of the factors of verbal and nonverbal communication used during the interaction. The filmed records will be coded using the Verona Medical Interview Classification System (VR-MICS). The data will undergo analysis of percentage of agreement and the Kappa coefficient to ensure an acceptable measure of variability of the evaluations obtained from interviews of examiners.
