Abstract

Free-living animals are exposed to numerous threats of extinction. In Brazil, it is no different in the case of the giant anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactyla - Linnaeus, 1758), classified as a vulnerable species by the IUCN, ie, at great risk of being extinct globally and nationally. Therefore, it is necessary to obtain knowledge about the giant anteater, since there are few reports about the anatomy and microscopy of some organs, especially the liver, which then may serve to aid in the description of this species. This will provide more information to those interested in studying and preserving it. In that case, will be used ten corpses Myrmecophaga tridactyla, assigned by the Environmental Police of São Paulo and the Division of Clinical and Surgical Care of Wild Animals (Saccas) Veterinary Hospital "Dr. Halim Atique "located in São José do Rio Preto, which will use the liver, with the aim of describing their anatomy and analyze the microscopic aspects of this body by means of light and electron microscopy.(AU)
