Abstract

The hygienic methods employed by denture wearers must be effective and not deleterious for the constituent materials of the prosthetic device. The objective of this study will be to evaluate the surface roughness and flexion resistance of an acrylic resin after immersion in a 2%, 5% and10% castor bean (Ricinus communis) solution, simulating a period of one year and a half of use. A hundred rectangular specimens (65mm x10mm x 3.3mm) will be prepared from heat-polymerized acrylic resin (Lucitone 550) that will be distributed dint five groups (n = 20): C1: without immersion, C2: Immersion for 08 hours in distilled water; EX1: immersion for 08 hours in 2% castor bean solution; EX2: immersion for 08 hours in 5% castor bean solution; EX3:immersion for 08 hours in 10% castor bean solution. The specimens will be evaluated for surface roughness by rugosimeter (SurftestSJ-201P) and flexion resistance by Universal Testing Machine (model DL2000 ? EMIC). The statistical tests will be realized by software SPSS Statistics 17.0.(AU)
