Abstract

The present proposal envisages the execution of a semester-long internship at Gutenberg University, Mainz, under supervising of the Prof. Matthias Kossler. The main goal of the internship is the access to the collections of the Gutenberg University and of the Schopenhauer Archiv, Frankfurt, especially to the first editions of Schopenhauer's works, to his manuscripts and letters and also to his notes made on Kant's own works owned by him, contained in the Schopenhauer Archiv's collection. With this, I intend to verify in these sources the development of Schopenhauer's critique to Kant, especially regarding their theory of representation, which constitutes the theme of my master research, linked to the internship proposed here. This research aims to establish the importance of this critique for the schopenhauerian metaphysics, and a perspective on its evolution throughout the chronological development of Schopenhauer's thought will doubtlessly be central to establish this relation between representational theory and metaphysics in Schopenhauer. Parallel to that, the internship in Mainz will also offer opportunities of approximation with the medium of schopenhauerian studies in Germany: on one hand by means of participation in the activities of the Schopenhauer Gesellschaft of Mainz, presided by Prof. Kossler; on the other, through visiting of courses offered by Gutenberg University during the internship's period.
