Abstract

Bartonellas are bacteria worldwide distribution, re-emerging and neglected. The bartonella infections are potentially fatal, especially in immunocompromised patients. These bacteria invade endothelial cells and there is no gold standard diagnostic method, because false negative results are common even using serological and molecular techniques. The objective of this study is to find new non-invasive methods and more sensitive to diagnose infection by Bartonella spp .. Balb / c mice are infected by known concentration of the agent and uninfected animals serve as a control. After four days of experimental infection blood samples will be collected for isolation of endothelial cells, inflammatory cytokine analysis and PCR. Animal skin tissue culture will be made and these will be analyzed by optical microscopy and transmission electron. As a result of the research, expected to generate new diagnostic tests to detect infection with Bartonella spp., A new model for studying biofilm formation by Bartonella spp. and their resistance to antibiotics.
