Abstract

The aim of the present study is to determine the workload by means of speed and heart rate, as well as the influence of exercise on blood parameters Barrel Racing Exercise in Quarter Horses. For this purpose, will be used 20 mature Quarter Horse, males and females, from owners and trained for Barrel Racing. The horses will be subject to the Barrel Racing Exercise and will be fit with a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the speed and heart rate monitor. The track will be prepared with distribution of barrels as official measures and sensors to count time by photocell. In the moments before (M0) and after the end of the exercise (5 (M5), 10 (M6) and 30 (M7) minutes), venous blood samples will be collected for the determination of packed cell volume, plasma protein, lactate and glucose. During the exercise will be measured the distance traveled, total time and in four segments of the route (M1, M2, M3, M4), calculated average speed (distance / time), speed measured by GPS and heart rate. According to the distribution of data, analyzed by Kolgomorov and Smirnov test, the variables will be evaluated using statistical methods parametric or nonparametric. Upon the occurrence of the first case, the data will be initially evaluated by F test analysis of variance, and when significant, the averages are confronted by multiple range test of Tukey. In case of non-parametric tests they will be analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test. The analyzes will be processed with the aid of computerized statistical program (SigmaStat version 3.10). All analyzes are considered significant at p <0.05.
