Abstract Pregnant women present important changes in the organism that affect several systems as the breathing, the cardiovascular and the muscle-skeletal. The recommendation of the physical exercise during the pregnancy dates from several years. However, the researchers do not conclude exactly the mechanisms involved during pregnancy; thereby the solution for physicians and pregnant women is not indicate the exercise as treatment. Therefore, to evaluate the level of physical exercise during pregnancy appears to be a starting point for understanding this practice and prescription. Furthermore, many studies show indefinite and contradictory answers regarding the specific effects of the exercise for the pregnant women. Considering the type, intensity and frequency of the physical exercise, the aim of this study will be to identify the intensity (slight, moderate or severe) of the physical exercise (swimming) by determination of lactate in pregnant rats and to relate those intensities with the maternal reproductive performance and perinatal outcomes.
