Abstract

The Scinax catharinae clade has over 40 species assigned to two groups, occurring almost exclusively in Brazil. This clade has some morphological synapomorphies suggested by the literature, which refer to the muscular and osteological features So far there is no proposal on the broad phylogenetic composition and internal relationships of the S. catharinae clade. Moreover, several species of this clade have close morphological affinities and is difficult to establish specific limits between them. Thus, the integration of molecular and phenotypic data, the inclusion of more representatives terminals of these cryptic species, and the expansion of the number of species included in the analysis are aims of this study. Therefore, this study aims to test the relationship of species belonging to the S. catharinae clade, besides studying the evolution of many morphological characters sets, and provide relevant information for further studies, especially those focusing on taxonomy and evolutionary issues.
