Abstract

One of the most cause of mortality in the word is related to tissue neoplasia. Particularly, breast cancer remains the second most common cancer among women. Early diagnosis of breast cancer can certainly reduce the risk of death of people with this type of neoplasia. Currently, mammography is the most effective method for early detection of breast cancer although it has limitations due to small radiographic differences between the normal and neoplastic breast tissues. Currently new types of breast images have been studied and proposed. Most of these studies present images formed by other physical parameters, different of the traditionally used, such as, linear attenuation coefficient, electron density, effective atomic number, fibrous or fat composition, etc. In this way, this proposal aims to study the set of new techniques of multimodal tomographic images of the breast (using transmission and scattering) which permit obtain the spatial distribution of these different parameters. This type of study is potentially important for health because is associated with the development of new radiological techniques that would complement the information of current imaging techniques and thus increase the diagnostic capability of breast cancer.
