Abstract

There are many techniques to tame horses, though some like traditional dressage, based on the use of violence, fear, pain, and fatigue, which in turn generate a horse frightened and cornered. The process of taming is rationally is divided into four parts: connection, desensitization, saddlery, and the act of mount. Note that the connection process has been so successful in the relationship between man and horse that started to be used with any horse of any age, tame or not. The use of the round-pen in rationales tame is based on an understanding of the behavior of the horse, where this consists of a circular arena, constructed of different materials, and may have open or closed sides. However, there are few papers in this area, especially in the case of the use of the round pen, the varieties of them, and their influence in the process of taming the animals. Thus, the objective of this study is to evaluate the influence of round-pen (open or closed) on the behavior of horses and the trainer during the connection process in taming animals. It will be held at 40 Quarter Horses tamed, 20 males and 20 females chosen at random, with an average age of 6 years (± 1.5 years). It will be using two different types of round-pen, opened and closed by the boards. Both have the same size, 16 feet in diameter, belonging to Taboga's training center at Brotas - SP, where the animals are already being used. (AU)
