Abstract

The initial aim of this project is to develop a new in house Fourier Transform mass spectrometer dedicated to the study of the reactivity and vibrational spectroscopy of gaseous ions. Reactions between nucleophiles and esters of inorganic acids will be explored because reactivity in these systems is usually dictated by the dynamics and do not necessarily follow the lowest energy channel. We would also like to explore further ligand exchange reactions of simple Si, Ge and Sn ions that are of fundamental interest and bear relevance to organometallic chemistry. Vibrational spectroscopy of ions will be study by using a 2-color action spectroscopy approach with the use of tunable infrared OPO/OPA laser and a cw CO2 laser.
