Abstract

This project concerns the study and the translation into Portuguese of Isocrates' speech Antidosis (436-338 BC) written around 353 BC. It is one of his last published works and the longest one (323 paragraphs), in which the author presents a defense of his pedagogical activity advanced in forth century BC. In other words, the speech constitutes a synopsis of several moments of Isocrates' life as educator, as well as of his political and philosophical thought, with direct quotations of others speeches - namely, Panegyricus, To Nicocles and On the Peace. Moreover, Isocrates resumes in Antidosis his criticism of the sophists - especially the eristics - and their pedagogical practices, which he has advanced in previous speeches, such as Against the Sophists and Helen, in order to corroborate the defense of his paideia.
