Abstract

Considering that geographers interested in literary studies focused their attentions usually in the literary form of the novel (Brosseau, 1996), a literary form more related to the rationality of the scientific expression, this research aim, in first place, to establish an interrelation between geographical science and lyric expression, specifically between Brazilian geography and Brazilian poetry, focusing the work of Carlos Drummond de Andrade, one of the most important Brazilian poets of the twentieth century. The intimate relation with the world and the expression of this relation is one of the pillars of the lyric work of Carlos Drummond de Andrade, who expresses, in the most part of his work, his Feelings of the world very clearly. Though every poet expresses essentially the world, since as asseverates Adorno "The lyric work hopes to attain universality through unrestrained individuation" (Adorno, 2003, p.66), the hybridism between the poet and the world is not ever evident as it is in Drummond's poetry - in the words of Antonio Cândido, Carlos Drummond de Andrade is "the most important social poet of our contemporary literature" (Cândido, 2011, p. 85).Therefore, we believe his poetry carries a strong sociospatial content, offering extensive possibilities of research in the sphere of human geography. Hence, his lyric sociospatial representations become a source of exploration for a geographical comprehension of the real world expressed by poetry. The dialectic relation between the poet and the world is a reciprocal relation where the world produces the poetry, and the poetry (re)produces the world (in concrete an symbolic terms), and this issue can constitute an ample field of research for geographers.
