Abstract

Introduction: Studies have reported that students with visual impairments rely on help from families in school activities in order to streamline access to learning materials (Montilha,2006), moreover, simple features can be used in home and school improving the academic performance of students with low vision. The work of the family as a central support, which can give strength and support is paramount to the rehabilitation process (Monteiro, 2012). Thus, this research is justified by the need to deepen knowledge about family participation in school development for adolescents with visual disabilities. Objective: The objective is to verify the perceptions and behavior of parents and / or caregivers In front of the process of schooling of adolescents with visual impairments. Materials and Methods: This was a qualitative research study, in which parents are selected and / or caregivers of adolescents with visual impairments seen in CEPRE (FCM / UNICAMP). Data collection will begin with an open interview about how you gives the participation of parents in the educational process of young people. After that, a group of parents will be formed in order to enable the participation of the family in school matters; also will be held a final interview to see if there were changes in the role of the family after the parents's group. Regarding adolescent, a focal group will be held in order to verify their perceptions regarding the involvement of family members in school issues. Expected Results: Expected to contribute to understanding of the parents and / or caregivers about their participation in the activities of adolescents with visual impairment in the schooling process.
