Abstract

The objective of this project is to investigate if there is any correlation between mineral rents and human development in Brazil. In addition, the project will analyze if there is any positive correlation between the volume of the Compensação Financeira pela Exploração Mineral (CFEM) and the IDH of the benefited cities. The basic empiric strategy is to use the method of differences in differences that means, basically, the cities will be divided into two groups: the control group composed of cities that do not receive royalties of mineral, and the treatment group, composed by cities that receive royalties of the resources. The question is highly interesting because of the actual revision proposals of a regulatory mark of the mineral sector in Brazil. (AU)
