Effect of forced ventilation and cryotherapy after exercise on thermoregulatory responses of horses trained or untrained

Abstract

The aim of this research is to compare the thermoregulatory responses of horses subjugated, after exercise, to three different cooling methods: forced ventilation, refreshed ventilation associated with nebulizer and cryotherapy with shedding of water. This experiment will be conducted at the Helvetia Polo Country Club, at Indaiatuba/SP. 24 horses will be used, 12 trained and 12 untrained animals, to find difference between three cooling methods. A protocol will be followed involving the realization of thirty minutes of different types of physical exercises, with heart rate did not exceeding the 180 beats/min, and intending to simulate physiological responses in the animals, as increase in body temperature, sweat rate, heart rate, respiration rate and hematological parameters. The recovery pattern of these physiological variables will show, at the conclusion of this experiment, which method is more efficient to help the thermoregulation of these animals, as well as indicating the obstacles of each practice.
