Abstract

In the globalized world, people have acquired increasingly unhealthy habits, especially because of processed foods, which causes an increase in obesity in adolescents and adults. These findings also contribute to an increased risk of developing chronic diseases. In Brazil, non-communicable diseases and injuries are already configured as public health problems. Among the diseases are cardiovascular. According to the international classification of diseases in its tenth revision, brain vascular diseases fit in the set of diseases caused by circulatory system diseases. Stroke is the third leading cause of death worldwide, however, in Brazil, it is the leading cause of death. The impact of stroke can be accessed through the systems of health information, once it is the main reason for hospitalization in SUS Which is the frequency of hospitalizations by stroke by all ages in the hospital network's unified health system (SUS) in the period January 2008 to December 2012 for the administrative units of Brazil? Which are the places with higher risk for the occurrence of stroke in the country in the considered period of time? The transition from life habits and patterns of chronic diseases generate a modification in the epidemiology of NCDs, including stroke. Hence, it is needed to understand how this aggravating has been distributed in time, space and among groups of people, therefore being relevant to place it as an epidemiological problem. (AU)
