Abstract

Blastocladiella emersonii is a fungus of the Blastocladiomycete class that is positioned at the base of the fungal phylogenetic tree. This fungus shows an interesting life cycle with two cell differentiation stages: germination and sporulation. The early events of germination do not require protein synthesis and involve posttranslational regulatory events, while at the late events in this stage major changes in the pattern of RNA and protein synthesis are observed. During sporulation it can observed major alterations in protein synthesis, RNA synthesis and high levels of proteolysis, which indicate an active posttranslational and posttranscriptional regulation. Therefore, the present work aims to clarify the signaling pathways involved in the life cycle of B. emersonii and to identify the proteins enrolled in each stage of this cycle. The results obtained will improve the knowledge of the regulatory mechanisms of this model and will contribute to evolutive studies of cell signaling. (AU)
