Abstract

Pythium insidiosum is the etiological agent of pythiosis, a disease that affects humans and animals, mainly in countries with tropical and subtropical climates. This pathogen is not a true fungi, it belongs to Stramenopila Kingdom, Oomycota Phylum. Molecular studies have been conducted recently and shown that mitochondrial DNA, particularly cytochrome c oxidase (Cox II) is a good marker for phylogenetic analysis between species, as well as intraspecific variability analysis. The present study aims to evaluate phylogenetic analysis among 17 isolates of P. insidiosum, from equines and human cases of pythiosis of different counties of São Paulo State. The results herein obtained will allow better comprehension among the phylogenetic aspects of these isolates, as well as will contribute to the databases of GenBank and literature. (AU)
