Abstract

This research project investigates efficient algorithms for solving two extensions of the assembly line worker integration and balancing problem (ALWIBP). This problem arises in manufacturing systems with heterogeneous workers, such as sheltered work centers for disabled or conventional companies employing people with disabilities. In this context, the main objective is to maintain high productivity levels while integrating the disabled workers into the workforce. Motivated by the social and scientific challenges of such problem, our goal is to propose mathematical models and fast and efficient solution methods in order to tackle these problems. (AU)
