Abstract

The relative growth, sexual maturity, reproductive period, juvenile recruitment, sex ratio, fecundity, and monogamy of Alpheus brasileiro will be investigated. From March 2013 to February 2014 samplings will be performed bimonthly in the region of Cananéia, SP. The samplings will be during periods of low tide in the intertidal region. The shrimps will be collected by two people by removing rocks and sediment. Subsequently the material will be taken to the laboratory for analysis. The environmental data sampled will be monitored. Individuals will be identified in relation to sex and measured as the structures: carapace length (LC), major chela length (MCL), major chela width (MCW), major chela height (MCH), length of second abdominal pleura (PL) and masculine appendix length (CA). The population structure will be analyzed in terms of distribution by size classes of individuals. To obtain sexual maturity in females will be considered the lower carapace length observed in females with eggs. To analyze the correlation between fertility and the size of females and number of eggs loaded will be used all females with eggs in early stages of embryonic development. The morphological sexual maturity will be obtained by analysis of relative growth. The data that will be obtained from each of the objectives will be analyzed using appropriate statistical tests. This study will provide important new information about the biology and population of A. brasileiro.
