Abstract

Data on the prevalence of congenital malformations in Brazil are rare, it occurs throughout the State of São Paulo. Some studies show that the malformation affects approximately 3% of live births. The objective of this project is to estimate the prevalence of congenital anomalies, using information from the Live Birth Certificates, in São José dos Campos, in 2009 and 2010, according to maternal variables and live birth. A cross-sectional analytical study, based on secondary data from statements of Live Birth, which is the source SINASC will be develop. The surveyed data related to children born in 2009 and 2010, whose mothers live in São José dos Campos, São Paulo. In this study, the dependent variable is the presence of congenital anomalies and the following independent variables: birth weight, gestational age, sex of the newborn, maternal age and education, and number of previous live births and stillbirths. Data will be analyzed using SPSS v17. The significance level is set at 5% (± = 0.05) and to evaluate the association will use the chi-square statistic, and for ordinal variables, chi-square test for linear trend. Tables, cases with missing information will not be considered, and therefore there is variation in the total number of tokens analyzed.
